Robot offers lessons in how lizards use their tails in flight


Scientists study red-headed Agama lizards — and a tailed robot they created, dubbed Tailbot — to discover how a lizard's tail helps stabilize the reptile while jumping.

A tail is a handy thing to have — it can aid in flight, swat insects, display showy plumage, grasp onto tree limbs or scare away predators with a brisk, threatening twitch.
